Calm After the Storm

We reached the lee of the Auckland Islands at 2300 last night and everyone appreciated the opportunity to sleep in the calm after the storm we had experienced out at sea. Everyone slept soundly and woke feeling much refreshed. The wind and sea had eased, so after breakfast we headed out again and found the conditions much better, so we are now making good speed towards Macquarie Island.

This region immediately south of the Auckland Islands is renowned for a high diversity and abundance of seabirds, many of which are now accompanying our progress through a more benign ocean.
