Bukhta Pavla and Bukhta Petra

Jewel of the Russian Far East - the last of Heritage Expeditions Russian Far East voyages for 2018 has kicked off with a bang. Arriving into the sheltered fjord of Bukhta Pavla last night, we enjoyed a relaxing nights sleep while at anchor. Some of us chose to start the day’s activities with a hike towards an old glacier lake – when we arrived we were greeted with a pair of red-throated divers displaying in the middle of the lake. Not to be outdone, a Brown Bear Mum and her cub decided to provide plenty of entertainment by running around on the slopes above the lake. Reluctantly leaving them to their play, we climbed up to a saddle and walked down the next fjord – it was a beautiful walk and a lovely way to stretch the legs and really get to experience the amazing landscapes of the area. After a much needed nutritious lunch we enjoyed the calm seas and some Gray whale sightings as the ship set sail for our next destination tomorrow.
