Breathtaking Views at Kolombangara

Another early morning start as we headed onto Kolombangara Island. Just as the sky began to brighten we headed up in the back of a truck and four-wheel drives for a 45-minute drive through the village, past the hardwood plantations and to a research lodge (Imbo Rano) at around 350 metres above sea level. The view over untouched tropical rainforest surrounding the rim of an extinct volcanic crater was breathtaking. We walked on a couple of tracks and saw pale mountain pigeons, white-capped monarchs, crimson-rumped myzomela and Solomon Islands white-eye.
