Blogging Again

It is a while since I have posted a blog and for this I apologise to all those regular readers/followers. Blogs have been somewhat over-shadowed by other events and our email system crashed temporarily. Fortunately we are now back up and running, thanks due as I understand it, to some software engineer in the USA.

This Antarctic voyage started in Bluff and we travelled via the Snares, Auckland’s and Macquarie Island. We weren’t able to Zodiac cruise at the Snares Islands but have had great landings at both the Auckland Islands and Macquarie Island. We did have an extra day at the Aucklands while waiting for a strong to gale force South Westerly to pass. This delay made our trip to Macquarie Island a little bit more comfortable.

Macquarie Island Encounter with King Penguins

This morning we crossed the 60th degree south latitude enroute to the Ross Sea, so technically we are now within the Antarctic Treaty Area. Sea conditions are good albeit a little confused, as a low pressure system is passing directly over the top of us and we are currently experiencing winds from many different sectors. Now that we are back on line I will try to keep you updated with events and progress as we head south.
