Birding in New Caledonia

Day 8: Wednesday April 10, 2016.

The birders had two fantastic days on New Caledonia getting great sightings of around 95% of the targeted species, including the remarkable flightless kagu and the beautiful cloven-feathered fruit-dove. The highlight today at Mount Koghi was the unexpected sighting of the very shy New Caledonian thicketbird. This dainty little bird with lovely markings and colouration came right up to the group and stood amongst the birders feet, needless to say we all got excellent views!
