Approaching New Zealand

It has been an uneventful voyage so far as we cruise on a direct course towards Cook Strait which runs roughly north to south and separates the North and South Islands of New Zealand. It was named after Captain James Cook, the first European commander to sail through it in 1770. According to Maori legend however, it was discovered by the great navigator Kupe, who pursued a huge octopus across it in his canoe.
