Anenome Fish, Coral Walls and Spectacular Birding

It was an early start for our birders this morning with the zodiac departing from Spirit of Enderby at 0245 under a starry sky, but they were rewarded with an excellent day at the Lelet Plateau where they saw many of the endemic birds of New Ireland and lots of others for good measure.

For the rest of us the day began at the more respectful hour of 0700 for breakfast followed by a great morning's snorkelling at Nusaum Island, there was nice views to be had Anenome Fish and a great coral wall with a mixture of soft and hard corals.

Over lunch the Spirit of Enderby returned to Kavieng where we headed ashore for an afternoon exploring including visits to the Japanese Caves, Treehouse and Boluminki's grave but the highlight for most was the newly opened craft market and cultural performance.

With all aboard we enjoyed a pleasant 2 hours of navigation through the islands and channels between New Ireland and New Hanover, as we cleared the channels we were briefly joined by a small pod of Bottlenose Dolphins and in the distance spotted numerous whale blows that were most probably Sperm Whales.
