2 Feb Voyage: Shokalskiy Sea Days

It was another day at sea after a long night in the lurching waves. Conditions improved after breakfast so we were able to offer entertainment in the lecture room which started with a two part movie adaptation of Dava Sobel’s ‘Longitude’, the true story about 18th century genius John Harrison’s 40 year quest to invent the chronometer. Later we viewed ‘Blackfish’. This documentary covers the issues of keeping Orcas in captivity and was instrumental in the closing down of a number of establishments. We’re making good headway and have only 305 nautical miles to go before we reach Campbell Island, so providing the favourable conditions continue, we are scheduled to arrive there in about 24 hours.
