Applications are open for the Kimberley 2024 True Young Explorer Scholarships
This is your chance to experience true expedition travel to Australia’s magnificent Kimberley region.  The Trustees of the True Young Explorer programme are delighted to extend their scholarship programme to include the Kimberley region.

Forged by nature and spanning more than 400,000 square kilometres, Australia’s world-famous Kimberley Coast features a treasure trove of towering, fractured iron-tinged red cliffs, torrential waterfalls, azure waters, hidden coves and caves, secluded white sand beaches perfect for expedition cruising. Explore magnificent reefs and encounter rare and endangered wildlife; experience indigenous customs, rock art and connections to ancient lands; and discover the area's rich history on a Kimberley cruise with Heritage Expeditions.

About Heritage Expeditions
Every year Heritage Expeditions takes small groups of intrepid travellers on voyages to some of the world’s most unique and remote islands, coasts and shorelines aboard our purpose-built expedition ships. Founded in 1984 by the Russ family in Christchurch, New Zealand, we are still proudly family-owned and operated contributing to conservation through experiential learning, providing funds for research and management, and our ongoing legacy of creating ‘ambassadors’ through our True Young Explorer Scholarships.

Securing Your Scholarship
True Young Explorer Scholarships provide a limited number of younger people (aged 18 - 30 years) with the opportunity to join expeditions to experience some of the remarkable places we visit at a fraction of what it would otherwise cost. In doing so, our aim is to create a league of ‘ambassadors' inspired to help raise the profile and protect these precious areas, and the unique flora and fauna inhabiting them, for future generations.

To secure a scholarship, we are looking for individuals who are passionate about the Kimberley region. Whether you are studying science, an artist, in media, involved in community organisations, a teacher or … we want to know how you will share your experience travelling aboard our expeditions on Heritage Adventurer alongside like-minded passengers and an incredibly experienced expedition team of naturalists, biologists and historians on the voyage of a lifetime.

At this time we are offering the following 2024 Kimberley scholarships with Heritage Expeditions:

Kimberley Explorer: Expedition Cruising Australia's Iconic Kimberley Coast
11 - 21 August 2024  Darwin to Broome, Australia
21 - 31 August 2024  Broome to Darwin, Australia

Advertised price: NZD$13,650pp or AUD$12,750pp
Scholarship price: NZD$4,515pp or AUD$4,245pp

Set sail on an authentic adventure and experience nature on an unfathomable scale as we explore Australia’s world-famous Kimberley coast. Discover one of Earth’s most pristine and untouched wildernesses where towering, iron-tinged red cliffs, torrential waterfalls, hidden coves and rare and endangered wildlife meet white-sand beaches, magnificent reefs and fascinating WWII history. Visit ancient Indigenous Australian rock art galleries and experience indigenous customs and connections to this ancient land and its incredible history.

•    Are you aged 18-30 years?
•    Can you contribute 30% of the advertised cost of the expedition?
•    Will you share your adventure within 3 months of returning?

The Next Steps
Tell us why you should receive a scholarship and how the experience will benefit both you and the Kimberley region (how you plan on sharing your adventure). Creativity and passion is encouraged and applications can be submitted in the medium that best suits you – just no more than 400 words or 5 minutes long.

•     Full name and Date of Birth (proof of age may be required)
•     Address including daytime/after hours telephone numbers and email
•     Expedition(s) applied for (Name and Departure Date)
•     Where you heard about the True Young Explorer Scholarships
•     Your Scholarship submission (see above)
•     Name and address of one referee
•     Declaration that you have sufficient funds to pay the contribution required (funds are 
      payable on confirmation of the scholarship berth)
•     A valid passport; and visa (if applicable), are required

Please note:

• Successful recipients are required to cover the cost of travelling to and from
  the expedition.
• Successful recipients are required to have an appropriate travel insurance
  policy – further details can be provided.
• Scholarships are offered on a twin-share basis.
• Applications will be assessed upon receipt – the final deadline for
   applications is Wednesday, 31 July 2024.
