Western Pacific

Only the mounted globe on its pedestal gives a clear impression of the enormous size of this area. Dotted amongst the vast ocean are thousands of small islands and atolls each with their own unique people, history and wildlife.  Settled originally by seafaring hunter gathers much of the wildlife suffered as they either collected it for food or destroyed the habitat. Today many of the Islands are still inhabited by descendants of the original settlers, other islands have been abandoned. The status of the wildlife of these islands is, in many cases, poorly known, new species are being discovered or rediscovered and the distribution of known species is being extended by expeditions such as we offer.
