Antarctic Circle

Its Sunday morning and we have just crossed the Antarctic Circle, that imaginary line around the globe at 66° 34' S, below which the sun does not set on the longest day of the southern summer. We are riding out an Antarctic Storm which started in the early hours of this morning and the weather map suggests will be with us until early tomorrow morning. Some people are up and about, while others are lying on beds reading books or listening to music. The topic of conversation on the bridge this morning was about what it would have been like on the Terra Nova or the Nimrod in these conditions. Just imagine having to head out on deck to set sails or feed the dogs and ponies. Experiences like these bring new appreciation and meaning to the books we have read.
