17 Jan Voyage: Emotional Visit
Today we made a late landing at Cape Evans to view Scott’s Hut. This visit evoked strong emotions in many of the group, leaving some in tears when they emerged from the building into the monochromatic landscape. The enormity of the challenge those early exploration teams faced was immense. A moulting Emperor Penguin was located nearby to the delight of wildlife enthusiasts, two of whom were ferried back ashore to ensure they didn’t miss the sight. We then kept pushing Southwards past Cape Royds as conditions were not conducive to a landing at this time.
