Volcanoes and Geysers

This will be my last blog for the 2013 Russian Far East season. The last two days of the Jewel of the Russian Far East expedition we enjoyed great weather and had a brilliant afternoon at Olga Bay. Yesterday we were at the Zhupanova River where we enjoyed spending time with a particularly curious young Steller's Sea Eagle.

We arrived in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy early this morning at the end of what has been another hugely successful and satisfying season. Today the passengers are enjoying a number of different excursions ranging from visiting the world famous Valley of the Geysers, to climbing the Avacha Volcano or exploring the town. The Spirit of Enderby will stay here for a few days while we attend to a small amount of maintenance and sign on a new crew for the southern season. Then it will be time to head south for our next expedition in Papua New Guinea - a very different but equally exciting destination.
