Time Out for Scientists

Position: 70 North & 175 West
South East of Wrangel Island
Weather: Cold, 4 degrees, windy, 20 knots, overcast

Scrabble Wave

The science team had no option but to take some time out yesterday as the weather continued to halt most work. A ship rolling to an angle of 40° makes standing difficult, let alone working on deck or in the lab. Consequently the researchers honed their Scrabble skills in the dining room.

Today was more successful with the geology team out on deck in the morning followed by the CTD team. Then the fish trawling team caught some small crabs for their research. The zoo plankton team is now keen for their turn on deck.

We are now making our way towards the ice which surrounds Wrangel Island and everyone is still in high spirits despite the difficult circumstances.
