Superb Start to Wrangel Island Expedition

Our fourth and final Wrangel Island expedition for this year left Anadyr on the 29th August.  We sailed out into the Gulf of Anadyr and into perfect weather. The weather has continued to be very settled for the last two days and we have enjoyed some amazing landings. On the 30th we were at Preobrazhenya Bay and all of yesterday was at Yttygran Island and Senyavin Strait area. We landed at Whale Bone Alley which is a famous archaeological site dating to an ancient Inuit culture (14th – 16th Century.  We spent three hours whale watching and had great views of Gray whales. In the afternoon we visited with a local Chukchi family and some of us enjoyed a soak in a natural hot pool overlooking the Arctic tundra.
