Southbound Again!

Our second Ross Sea Expedition of the season departed the Port of Bluff with a full complement of expeditioners yesterday and we sailed out into a calm southern ocean. Overnight we cruised down the east coast of Stewart Island and arrived at the Snares Islands just after day-break this morning. The sea conditions continued to be cooperative and we enjoyed nearly 3 hours Zodiac cruising along the eastern shoreline enjoying great views of the Tomtit and Fernbird. The endemic Snares Crested Penguins have almost completed their annual breeding cycle and the chicks are fledged, while the Buller’s Albatross are still incubating eggs. We are now making our way towards the Auckland Islands and continue to enjoy calm conditions (by southern ocean standards).
