New Britian
The morning and early afternoon was spent exploring relics of the Japanese occupation of New Britain. We visited the former site of the town of Rabaul that virtually disappeared after a huge volcanic eruption in 1994. Later two groups of snorkellers explored the reefs around Duke of York Island while the kayakers circumnavigated the island. Conditions were perfect and the day ended with a gorgeous sunset behind the dramatic volcanoes of Rabaul.
