Memories of Nimrod and Terra Nova

Yesterday we landed at the German Polar Research Gondwana Station, on the Antarctic continent and encountered 3 Emperors Penguins during our visit.

Shackleton's Hut

Early this morning we arrived at Ross Island and made landings at Cape Royds where we visited Shackleton's hut from the Nimrod Expedition 1907-1909 and Cape Evans to view Scott's Hut from the Terra Nova Expedition 1910-13. We were very fortunate to encounter beautiful weather and see the Mount Erebus volcano in the distance, silhouetted against a bright blue sky. Everyone enjoyed a great day examining the huts of explorers from the Heroic Era of Antarctic Exploration and artefacts magnificently conserved and restored by the Antarctic Heritage Trust.
