Makira

An early start again today. After a hearty breakfast prepared by Joss and Rocket, most of the group headed off for a morning of birding on Makira Island. Others stayed on board and cooled off by swimming in the refreshing waters around the ship.

At midday we were welcomed by the chief to Anuta village, and the village children presented each person with a lei and a fresh coconut. There was time to wander around and meet the villagers and to buy some of their handcrafts. We bid them farewell at around 1:30 and headed back to the ship where many opted to take a quick afternoon dip. Everyone then tucked into lunch before we set our course for the capital of the Solomon Islands, Honiara.
