Kolyuchin Encounters

We have had a very busy time since this expedition departed Anadyr on 3 August. On the second day we were in Preobrazheniya Bay where had our first opportunity to practice getting in and out of Zodiacs as we set off to cruise the amazing bird cliffs.  On Day 3 we explored the significant archaeological site of Whale Bone Alley and in the afternoon made our way through the tundra to take a dip in some thermal pools.  Day 4 saw us enjoying the hospitality of the locals at Lavrentiya where we visited their museum, tasted local food and watched traditional dancing. That evening we landed on Cape Dezhnev – the eastern most point of the Eurasian continent.  This morning the expeditioners attended a series of lectures and presentations before visiting Kolyuchin Island where we had close encounters with puffins and guillemots and spent time with walrus.
