Ice!

We expect to be in the ice tomorrow and will soon cross the Antarctic Circle. We have had a dream run south from Macquarie Island and are currently ahead of schedule. Ice conditions in the Ross Sea this year are fairly typical and we have had to come well east to get to the thinnest band of ice. We sighted our first iceberg today at 1600 hours and as if on cue, two Fin Whales surfaced near the ship in a celebratory 'swim past'. Tomorrow there will be a small celebration to mark the crossing of the Antarctic Circle at 66° 34’ S and our whale and wildlife spotting status will go to high alert as we cruise through the ice.
