Enderby Island Never Disappoints

It wasn’t the easiest landing on Enderby Island but it was a marvellous day. Even the rain held off and the wind eased mid afternoon. The majority of our group took the 12km walk around the island and everybody had magnificent views of the many different species that breed here. These include the Snipe, Flightless Teal, Royal Albatross, Light-mantled Sooty Albatross, Yellow-eyed Penguin, Red Crowned Parakeet, New Zealand Falcon, Tomtit, Bellbird, Auckland Island Dotterel, Pipit and Auckland Island Shag. We also saw a number of vagrants including the Australian Shelduck. A few male New Zealand or Hooker’s Sealions have already returned for the breeding season and will soon be followed by the females. We saw one lone young Elephant Seal amongst them. Tonight we are at anchor in Port Ross.
