Enderby Island Astounds

Today was our group's first landing on this Ross Sea Expedition and what a day it was! We dropped anchor off Enderby Island, in the Auckland Islands group, in the early hours of the morning on 14 January. The day started early with breakfast at 6.30am, as we knew we had a big day ahead of us. After having a briefing on the day's plan and creating our packed lunches, the Zodiacs began to ferry our expeditioners ashore at 9.30am.

We were blessed with great conditions on Enderby Island, with Expedition Leader Nathan commenting that the weather was the best he had seen on Enderby in five years! Forty expeditioners chose to wander around the island at their own pace, while ten took the short walk option along the boardwalk. With bright blue skies, calm glossy seas and a plethora of wildlife including Hooker's Sea Lions, Auckland Islands Shags and much more, a very satisfying day was enjoyed by all. Everyone returned aboard suntanned and smiling, to swap stories and photos at our ever popular bar hour at 7pm.
