Communing with Walrus

We arrived at Bukhta Gavrilla around midday yesterday after a good run across the Gulf of Anadyr. The weather had deteriorated a little and the sun and blue sky had been replaced by grey skies and rain but this didn’t deter us from going ashore to explore the area. Overnight we cruised to the nearby Pika River and spent the morning communing with a group of very interesting and interested walrus who gave us some beautiful photos and delightful close encounters as we observed them for a time.  This afternoon we will visit the small remote village of Meinypil’gyno where we will be introduced to the Chukchi culture.
