Bounty on Norfolk Island

A fantastic day on Norfolk Island.

After a rainy start to our day ashore, our birding group was able to get great views of all the target species - the Norfolk Island Parakeet, Slender-billed White-eye and Norfolk Gerygone - within 15 minutes of landing. Not long afterwards we also saw the Pacific Emerald Dove and Grey Fantail.

While the birders went in search of feathered friends the remainder of the group was escorted on a tour of the island by Margaret Christian, who is descended from Fletcher Christian, an infamous name connected to HMS Bounty history. Margaret spoke freely of her forbears and gave a fascinating and detailed account of the sometimes gruesome history of the island.
