Beringian Arctic Games

We are now at the port of Evigkinot topping up our fresh water after a successful time at the International Beringia games. Heritage Expeditions was a major sponsor of this unique event and arranged for the Spirit of Enderby to transport athletes from six Arctic nations to the gathering held in Novo Chaplino. A weekend of culture, sport and frivolity reigned as events kept participants busily moving from one venue to another.

A real highlight was watching the traditional walrus skin boat race in craft historically used for transportation and marine mammal hunting. Our team thoroughly enjoyed cheering on local Chukchi participants who are actively keeping their native culture alive by building, maintaining and racing these boats.
