Antipodes Islands Odyssey
The sun was shining brightly when we arrived off the Antipodes Islands at 1130hrs where we anchored in Anchorage Bay. Despite a strong swell we launched the Zodiacs so passengers could enjoy a cruise of these remote outcrops. Birders were particularly happy to see all our target species along the way. There were numerous Erect-crested and Rockhopper Penguins and we also saw a few Antipodes Parakeets and a few small groups Reischek’s Parakeets amongst the tussocks. New Zealand Fur Seals, Elephant Seal weaners and one lone Subantarctic Fur Seal sat surveying us from the rocks or came towards the Zodiacs for a closer look. Everyone agreed it had been a fabulous day exploring the rocky cliffs of these rarely visited islands.
