Antipodes Cruising

We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed a spectacular early morning Zodiac cruise at the Antipodes today. Very little wind and swell allowed us to get close to the Erect-crested Penguins on shore and we also succeeded in getting superb views of both the Antipodes Island and Reischek’s Parakeets. We had great lighting from the sun coming up in the east as we cruised Ringdove Bay where we spotted three species of seal and the distinctive courtship flights of several Light-mantled Sooty Albatross. It was hard to pull ourselves away from the array of wildlife which was just as curious about us as we were of it, but breakfast awaited us back aboard the ship. We have now begun our transit to Campbell Island and have already spotted some Antipodean Albatross as we pass through waters known to be productive for seabirding.
