Antarctic Memories

The seas died down in unison with the wind and the sun shone all day yesterday as everyone aboard prepared for our arrival in Lyttelton. Each hour brought us closer to the end of our journey and our return to civilization. It was sad for some to contemplate that they may never come this way again but the memories will live on. For those whose imagination has been stirred, who knows what the future holds? Expeditioners joined as a group of individuals, but they have been through so much and experienced many emotions together that only a journey to the bottom of the world can evoke, so they now have a special bond. Besides lifelong friendships, that bond is also with Antarctica. In future they will look at their photos and close their eyes to relive the sights, sounds and smells in the raw detail that comes only from being there. They now know what it is like for real and hope that it will stay that way forever.
