Antarctic Chinstrap Penguin Spotting

Jan 31st – We arrived at Balleny Islands today and got our first look at the snow and glacier-encrusted islands. We cut across the south end and then went up the seldom seen western side of Sturge Island that is normally inaccessible due to ice. Humpback sightings were seen as we cruised between the islands. In the evening, we arrived at Sabrina Island filled with Chinstrap Penguins all the way to the highest points on the exposed rock. It’s the only Chinstrap colony found in this part of Antarctica and few people ever get to see it, we were a lucky bunch today.
