Antarctic Anticipation

We have crossed the Polar Front (sometimes referred to as the Antarctic Convergence) and are nearing Cape Adare in Antarctica. It was a sure sign that we had crossed this significant waypoint when the water temperature suddenly dropped to 2 degrees. The air temperature is not a lot higher as we are in the middle of a classic westerly weather system at the moment. Fortunately for all aboard it is not uncomfortable in the 40 knots of wind and 4-5 metre swell as we are maintaining a good speed of 12 knots. Our days at sea are filled with lectures and presentations as anticipation builds for the days to come. The first iceberg on this voyage has been spotted and there will be a big celebration as we cross the Antarctic Circle. We are scheduled to reach the continent late tomorrow evening.
