2 Feb Voyage: Shokalskiy Heads South

Invercargill was enjoying a very rare 30+ degree day and the weather was perfect for sailing as we slipped quietly away from the Port of Bluff at 1630 under sunny skies yesterday. Aboard we have a bunch of very excited expeditioners who are taking part in our inaugural ‘In the Wake of Ross, Amundsen & Scott’ 35 day Antarctic voyage. Everyone was on deck for our dolphin escorted departure as we headed towards The Snares islands. Unfortunately the sea and wind conditions deteriorated during the night so we were unable to make a scheduled stop to cruise the Snares coastline and are now en-route for the Auckland Islands.
