17 Jan Voyage: A Talented Bunch

The weather and seas have been extremely kind with a relatively smooth and quick passage towards the Ross Sea where we expect to arrive off Cape Adare mid-afternoon tomorrow. Most people have spent the last few days at sea on the bridge viewing sea ice and wildlife, trawling through many hundreds of images and learning more through an outstanding series of lectures on history, geology, wildlife and photography from a variety of esteemed lecturers and guests.

On Sunday we celebrated Australia Day with a special brunch and a humorous ‘Australian Slang’ Quiz in the bar/library that had been decorated in green and gold in honour of the occasion. At 0500 this morning we saw our first iceberg and the announcement of this prompted many to rise early to witness this exciting event. We also crossed the Antarctic Circle – an ocean feat that few people ever achieve.  At present we are being entertained by two expeditioners in the bar/library who are providing live music for us with guitar and vocals. We certainly have a talented bunch of expeditioners on board!
